1960 Ashley 1172
Registration No. LEP 203
I first saw this Ashley 1172 GT Hardtop in
January 2025
when I was directed to it by another guy
that had helped his mate construct a
similar one in 1965.
He had seen it in a FaceBook Group
'Berriew Past & Present'
as part of another unrelated Article.

This is the article as was posted, so I contacted the Admin. of the FB group and asked if he could send me the story relating to the Ashley Car photo, which I'm pleased to say he did a couple of days later.
Below is the story of RAF Flight Lieutenant William Chatterton Brown and his Ashley 1172 GT.

HE BUILT HIS OWN CAR
Whenever Flight Lieutenant William C. Brown parked his sleek, homemade sports car on this travels around the country a crowd of motoring enthusiasts converged on him, firing questions about the vehicle.
So to put an end to the countless explanations he typed up the technical information about the Red two seater Ashley 1172 GT and stuck it on the windscreen.
Flight Lieutenant William Brown, of Pendref, Caersws, Wales said, I thinks it has done the trick!
You'd be amazed at the number of people who questioned me about the car, now they can read all they want to know.
The car, which has a speed of about 85 mph, took Flight Lieutenant Brown about 500 hours to make.
It has a modified Ford chassis and a tuned Ford 10 engine and the body is made of fibreglass, the front axle is modified to give independent front suspension.
