1960's Ashley 1172
Registration No. GPD 298
I have no photo's of this Ashley 1172 but I do know that it had a
Green body with a White top in 1970 and would have looked
similar to the photo above.
I have not found any Current DLVA Registration Information so must assume it is know longer registered, most likely scrapped, but as I've said before it might be in someone's backyard or old barn
waiting to be rediscovered.
This car was seen by Trevor Pyman, (a very keen cyclist, car enthusiast and contributor to these Ashley websites),
back on 29th March 1970, Rayleigh, Essex.
He saw it parked at the gateway of a car breakers yard on the side of the A127 trunk road. It looked like it was about to be broken up but amazingy in July 1971 he saw the same car parked on the forecourt of the village garage at Bradwell on Sea, Essex,
about 25 miles from where he had first seen it.
It obviously escaped the breaker but he doubt it survived much longer.

It may not have survived much longer but in
November 2023
it has made what might be it's final appearance for this story.
At this time in a Facebook Group a member posted this
damaged and blurred B&W photo below.

David Martin posted it as he had found it tucked away in a
car he had purchased, he thought it was a photo of a Rochdale
at first but realised later that it was an Ashley.
David thought he would resend to improve the quality of the photo
but found that the original photo was blurred and it was not a
fault of copying it.
But it's good enough to see the registration number.
I thought I would try improving using an online AI app,
it didn't improve the number but it did a reasonable repair job
and average colouring, see below.
So here it is David for all to see, thanks for suppling it.
