This photo I found on the internet
It is I would say an early 1960's UK photo, unfortunately the Registration plate is out of the photo.

In 2007/2008 News of this Ashley 1172 bodyshell came from France, with the accompanying notes:
"Hello from France ... I have a collection of English kit cars from the 50s/60's and my last acquisition is an Ashley Sportiva with Wolseley 1500cc engine and gearbox. I wish to rebuild this car, the shell looks as new and never been fitted on a chassis. The chassis seems to be near to a Bowden chassis, built for 1500cc BMC engine and gearbox (Wolseley)
Hopefully the restoration is complete by now. The car shown with removable hardtop is in fact an 1172 coupe. This example also has a Lotus badge on it.
The owner at the time was Patrice Wattine, Roubaix, in France.

Ashley 1172 looking very sad and in need of a good home/restorer.
These 4 photo's come from the
Retro Rides Forum in April 2012
and Madmart,
who told us that:
I have a Ashley kit car, its a rolling shell with V5c, its a tubular frame with a Herald 4 speed box, an adapter bell housing for a side valve Ford Popular engine, Herald rear suspension and Imp rack with two pop front beams cut to form a swing axle on the front.
The V5c states registered 1984 & manufactured 1962
Someone has modified both the front and rear end and the bonnet has a non-original bulge also.

This Ashley 1172 GT was owned by Derek Backhouse back in the Mid 1960's.
The photo was posted by Derek in the
50s/60s Special Builders Group in March 2022
I asked Derek if he could supply more information but received
no further communications from him
so have put the photo on this page hoping someone
else will recognise it and tell me that they have
also owned it at sometime and
supply a Registration Number and further information
so that I can add to the archive of stories..

I'm really hoping that
R. Le Count, or a relative come across
this article and can tell me more about this Ashley 1172.
At the time it was published in what was probably a car magazine, he lived in Dagenham, quite near to the Ford Motor Company factory, did he maybe work there.!!!
Has anyone else owned or seen this Ashley car,
if so where and when, please contact me and let me add it to my
Registration list and tell your story so that it can become
part of the Ashley Archive for all to see.
